With one of its kind stunt by a two-time Everest summitteer, the expedition season at Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, is all set to draw global attention in May.

The Tourism Ministry has issued permission to a seven-member team from the US-based National Broadcasting Corporation and Discovery Channel, to film a stunt to be carried out by Joby Ogwyn, and live broadcast on the Discovery Channel.

According to Madhusudan Burlakoti, Joint Secretary at the Tourism Ministry, the stunt would be “wing-suit descent.”

“It is not a jump as such,” said Burlakoti. “The stunt-man will wear a sort of strap-on parachute and skid off the peak and descend to the base camp.”
The filming project is an ambitious one, where the NBC sports personality Kyle Martino and his team, in collaboration with Discovery Channel, will analyse and broadcast the peculiar stunt.

The daredevil event will be aired live, NBC’s official website says, adding “many have considered the jump world’s most dangerous stunt.”

The stunt will be performed in May. But the exact date has not been made public yet.

A New York Post report said the 39-year-old's stunt would be aired live in a two-hour special on the Discovery Channel.

A camera would be strapped to Ogwyn’s wing suit for the live broadcast when he would be soaring at 150 miles per hour back down to the base camp.

"Camera operators will also be stationed at the Everest summit, base camp and along the mountain," the report said.
